It's been many years since I last worked seriously on my "Sports Stats" door, mostly because of the frustrating stasis of my main data source (xmlstats).

But I finally found time to switch to a new data source and revamp it.

So, as of today, Sports Stats is again displaying live standings, schedules, and results for all four major American sports (MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL).

If there are any sysops out there still use Sports Stats, you'll need to update to v0.8.0 since I made some changes to the data store and the ANSI/web clients.

If you want to see it in action, connect to guardian.synchro.net.
You can access Sports Stats from [X] > [2] > [2].

i just installed it the first time and i am not sure if the documentation about the installation process is quite complete.
i think i managed to install the door under ../xtrn/sportsstats
but i saw something about python in the code and and environment and a requirements.txt, so i installed the requirements in that not mentioned python environment and the Sports Stats door itself starts and shows me the 4 ansi icons but as soon as i try to actually retrieve and show some data,
i get a error message that something went wrong and to press a key.

anything that needs to be set up that's not in the readme yet or anything else i could have missed? the server.ini seems to be configured as recommended in the readme already.

ps: i am on a Ubuntu Linux (Proxmox LXC) and have the latest synchronet installed.

You can safely ignore the Python stuff.

As mentioned near the top of the README.md, I highly recommend that sysops configure their boards to connect to my Sports Stats JSON service. It's very simple, and is the default configuration for the door.

Yes, the Python scripts for scraping stats are included in the repo so I can track my changes. Any sysops who want to run them on their own are welcome to try, but I don't provide detailed documentation on them.

I imagine it has been a a few years since anyone was actively using my Sports Stats JSON service. It *should* be working, but I won't know for sure until other folks try it. So, if something is failing, please send me the details of whatever error your BBS reports, and I'll try to fix it.

I had a problem with my JSON service (I had previously re-configured it to be internal only), but I have changed it.

Xbit tested and confirmed it's working on his BBS now.

But if anyone else runs into trouble, please let me know!

We'll be ready to help test if/when you do. Btw, the web plugin you made is also very nice. I'm not running it but the one on your website looks great.

interesting. I had a quick look and notice that you're dumping files in /sbbs/mods. I am not sure this is a good choice. This is for people to put their own modifications in and you could easily go and overwrite something that someone else has done.

It seems like js-date-format.js would be better suited for /sbbs/exec/load and added as a separate project maybe.

Requiring this library is probably an unnecessary complication. I wrote this door 10 years ago and some of my choices were dumb, though putting the script in /sbbs/mods still makes sense to me.

Anyway, I have been thinking about this specific issue recently, and will probably revise the code soon to remove the dependency.

I dunno, that library looks pretty useful. I don't think Synchronet has anything specific to handle all kinds of date formats so it might be good for other things too.
