Yeah, it's pretty easy to set up. But IMO it's good to put some time into customizing it so that it's not a stock setup, and that is the project.

If you are running in on *nix and have to compile it, that can also become
    a project.

Ftn is pretty easy to setup;you just get the numbers right.

I hate to say that I have forgotten everything I know about Ftn. Getting old sux.

I was in Fidonet between the years of 1988-1997 and everything was DOS-based back then and run with magnanimous batch files (I recently found some of my old setups on floppies.) :)

it's not about being old, it's just because you forgot what you didn't practice. I've forgotten tons of things.

I've written some huge batchfiles and other scripts that I just couldn't do today.

I'm running Synchronet on Linux and it was very easy to compile, following instructions on the wiki.

Pretty amazing that you could run an node in a world-wide data network
using a batch file to accept callers, run maintenance, send and receive
new mail, and do everything on a DOS machine.

It was fun stuff. I found the SVC.BAT file here a few months ago after looking for it for ten years... I will give it to anyone who is interested. Maybe post it on my BBS for download.

You are probably right about that. I write Siemens PLC machine control code day in and out doing demos and projects for customers and I don't think I have lost any of that...

    maybe a little :)

Works pretty good, too, so long as you know what you are searching for.
